Goodyear :30 TV “Jump”

This commercial, shot on an island near Vancouver, introduced the new Goodyear Wrangler Aquatred. The dual-channel Aquatred for light trucks and sport utility vehicles. This commercial, another in the major demonstration campaign, was probable the most dramatic of them all. We built a ski jump (under the supervision of the the United States Olympic Ski Jump Team) on a remote island and pumped water from a river we dammed over a mile away. The truck drives down the cement covered ramp chasing a skier – who is hydroplaning down the jump. At the end of the ramp the skier continues to jump (into a safety net suspended over 30 feet above the ground of rocks and shoreline) and the truck stops safely. This commercial was featured, during production, on “Entertainment Tonight” as part of a feature talking about the upcoming Super Bowl and the  commercials that were being filmed especially for the Super Bowl. My 15 seconds of fame were seen on the show the following evening!

Goodyear :30 TV “Indy”

This commercial, another in a series of tire demonstration campaign, shows an Indy car coming in for a pit stop and having its tires changed. But, instead of racing tires, it is equipped with Goodyear Eagle Performance street tires. The high energy, high speed performance makes this commercial a very memorable one. We were lucky to hit Indy in bad weather and additional water trucks were brought in to help make the track wetter.

Goodyear :30 TV “Water Skiing”

This commercial was the first in a long series of commercial’s that demonstrated the unique advantages of the Goodyear Aquatred, the largest and most successful tire introduction in the history of tires. The concept of using a metaphor for hydroplaning – water-skiing – was used to demonstrate to the consumer the hazards of having a tire skimming over the surface of the road or puddles when the tire loses contact with the road and “hydroplanes”. The commercial demonstrates that even in less than a inch of water, you can hydroplane. The commercial was highly reviewed, highly regarded and garnered numerous press and awards.

Goodyear :30 TV “Glass Wall”

This commercial is another in the major demonstration campaign of Goodyear. This commercial introduced the consumer to the high performance Goodyear Eagle Aquatred. The amazing dual channel tire that sweeps water out of your way for outstanding wet traction. The commercial was shot on the Road Atlanta Road Course. The custom glass walls were constructed on the track for over a quarter mile. The car, driven at a very high speed, actually drove through this narrow tunnel without losing traction and hitting the glass walls… the concept behind the commercial…outstanding safe wet traction in a high performance tire. As a footnote, the evening before a storm hit Atlanta, and the high winds brought down over half of the walls! Speedy crews replaced the walls for the shooting the next day.

Goodyear :30 TV “Run Flat”

This is a commercial that introduced the amazing technology known as “Run Flat”. The commercial follows the campaign platform of demonstration, that had run for over 5 years. This dramatic demonstration showing a tire being violently punctured, demonstrates the safety that the peace of mind that the Goodyear Run Flat tire offers the driver.
